Shalour Gym and Tower of Mastery
'A city of awakening...' - If you wish to interact with Jean or challenge her to a battle, feel free to pm or catch this lovely Memoir in the cbox below. Of course this includes if the Gym itself or its pokemon/people are going to be involved in some kind of event.
Being one of the older cities, Shalour is thriving in old history. That doesn't stop them from sprouting up new ideas. The Gym is open to the public as an open skate rink and semi-trick park. Of course roller blades, skateboards, or a bicycle are required. The public-Gym is open Monday - Friday 10am to 10pm, closed on the weekends. Challengers are welcome 24/7 however (they just have to be sure to get someone to wake up Jean if they arrive at 12:00am).
The Tower of Mastery is run by the Mega Evolution Guru and thus is open to everyone 24/7 for a scenic view, meditation, or battling. Its the trademark pride of Shalour so volunteers who come to help keep the place clean are always welcome.
When Shalour Gym changed hands the majority of the rules and guidelines remained the same minus a few tidbits. Such as opening it up for the public to use. Local events created by the Gym, townsfolk, or even travelers also tend to happen much more frequently to attract more tourists. The Tower, being the symbol of the town however; is left untouched. Both are maintained relatively well but with the higher importance on the tower its obvious that it'll be much more sparkly than the gym.
From the outside, the Shalour Gym looks like one of the more higher-end buildings than its neighbors. The faint sound of music can be heard through the doors. Upon entering the only lights to be seen are the little white circles in the ceilings and walls as well as the highlighted rink. The inside has been remodeled to accommodate the various sorts of equipment required for one to participate on the floor, bars and jumps are located further within for the more advanced.
There is an empty gap between three rings, showing the levels. Walls block off the ports with only jumps and railings allowing those who think they can get to the next level. Those who fall end up on a series of safety nets watched over by a group of Meditite. Safety figures are obvious against the lights, wearing highlighted orange jerseys. They watch over the 'bridges' and keep an eye on things alongside their pokemon partners.
Two such individuals sit behind a desk at the entrance. "Hi there! Welcome to the Shalour Gym! You here for public hour? Or are you challenger?" Twin dark-haired teens announce from their place, speaking in unison with an almost practiced perfection. On each side of their respectively shared desk sits an idle pancham.
The first answer would result in the boy and his left pancham directing you to the rink, explaining things whether you are listening or not. The pancham will then either lend out a pair of rollerblades for a small fee if you have not brought your own. The second answer will bring you to stop as the right pancham brings a radio over to the girl. In a short bit you will end up waiting in the out circle while the girl goes to fetch Jean (who is hopefully awake).
GUIDELINES FOR ENTERING THE FACILITIES
Despite its inner appearance, the Gym is a safe place watched over by trainer's pokemon and sometimes Jean's own pokemon. There are rules for that apply to both the public and challengers however.
- It is required, no matter the level; that all parties entering the Gym's rink wear safety gear including a helmet. If you do not possess these then the front desk with provide them for a small fee. Roller blades, skateboards, and bicycles are allowed within the boundaries.
- There are three rings for the three types of levels. Beginners: the outer most/largest ring. Intermediates: middle/medium ring. Advanced: smallest/inner most ring. Children under the age of ten are not allowed outside the beginner ring. Children under the age of thirteen are not allowed passed the Intermediate ring.
- Smaller or quick pokemon are allowed outside their poke`ball, just be considerate of where you are and who you let out.
- If you are injured within the rink, move to a wall and wait for an associate to help you out of the rink.
- Do not attempt to harass any of the staff or the pokemon on duty. They are there for your safety.
- Do not free-fall into the safety nets below. Just because there is an elevator that will bring you back up to the entrance does not mean it is acceptable.
- Do not deface the building's interior or exterior in any manner. You will be charged with property damage.
- Do not bring food or drink into the rink, there is a trashbin at the entrance for that. A cafe` is down the street.
- Do not try to battle any of the unattended pokemon.
- All children are required to be with a parent or guardian at all times. Thirteen and younger are 'children ages'.
- If any heavy injury or death occurs, all battles are halted immediately and any public present will be escorted out in an orderly fashion while the situation is being attended to. Challengers and public will be compensated for any heavy injury or death that occurs within the building.
THE GYM LEADER
The current Gym Leader is Jeanne de'Chevalier. Originating from Lumiose City, Kalos - she is the daughter of a nouveau-riche nobleman affiliated with a series of clothing brands. If not found within the Shalour Gym, she can be found at the nearby cafe, in the Tower of Mastery, or somewhere on one of the beaches. She currently lives in one of the rooms in the Tower of Mastery. If she is out of town blame the bug leader.
Jean gives the Rumble Badge to victors within her gym along with those who have proven themselves worthy of it. It takes on the appearance of a bronze metal octogon-star filled with a multiple hued fiery colored glass.
The rewards given for defeating Jean are as followed: Shalour Gym Badge, a sum of prize money, and the TM98 Power-Up Punch.
Currently the Gym Leader's party consists of the following fighting types: Mienshao, Mankey, Scrafty, Croagunk, and Hawlucha. Mienshao and Hawlucha can be encountered on the lower platform of the Gym where the safety net is. If you spot any of the others... run.
GETTING THROUGH THE GYM
The layout of the Gym provides for three different kinds of battle-types. Some are more direct than others, some take longer, and some are filled with battles. Due to the difficulty of certain challenges, the Challenger may opt out to take a different route if they have not already begun on the first route they picked.
The first route is the classical, over-simplified three battle route. The battlers will be a safety representative in each of the rings, the first being a double battle between the reception twins. The second a beginner course watcher and the third an intermediate watcher before you are able to take on the Leader. After a ring leader is defeated they will activate an automated bridge between the bike ramps for the Challenger to cross. Beware: the Challenger will still have to wear safety gear at all times.
The second route, one of Jean's favorites; is a High Beam Balance game battle. As one might expect, both trainers and pokemon hop onto an elevator that takes them up to a tic-tac-toe styled fighting ring, large gaps presenting a chance to fall through. But don't worry, the Meditite and Medicham will be there to catch whomever falls. This is a direct battle with the leader, no other trainers involved.
There is a three-chance forgiveness per Challenger pokemon, it does not reset if the pokemon is withdrawn. If the pokemon falls a fourth time the entire team is sent back to the bottom in failure. Otherwise this a like a normal battle just with the concept of falling out of bounds more easily.Warning: Those with a height phobia should not attempt this route.
The third route is a more challenging but not nearly as terrifying Obstacle Course. In this challenge the Challenger races against three different leveled parkour fanatics, the leader included. Failing to outrace a gym trainer will result in a battle.
Jeanne's Mankey, Coton; will be tagging along with this in order to make sure no cheating occurs.
During any one of these challenges, if an accident or emergency occurs the Meditite will carry the Challenger to the entrance with their psychic powers. Note: if a Challenger is brought back to the beginning they cannot regain any progress they may have made with any of the challenges. Challengers are allowed to use items during battle. Please note that gym trainer battles must be fought in one sitting.
BATTLEFIELD AND RULES
There are two different types of battlefields for Challengers to use. First is the one used in the first and third route which only consists of the flat, smooth, artificial rink of the rings. Sometimes public may or may not be skating on these so it is wise to keep a cautious eye out for those who aren't courteous enough to avoid the battle area. The battle area will be highlighted on the rink with white, traditional battlefield lines.
The second is the upper level which only consists of beams sealed together with welding and concrete. This is a specialized battlefield for the second route only. Its recommended that overly large or non-agile don't try and battle on this. They'll fall through easily or worse - get stuck in a hole.
Shalour Gym allows three different kinds of battle types: single battles, double battles 4v4s, or single challenger 3v3s.
Single Battles allow for the entire party to battle no matter the number difference, one at time. Double battles are fought two-on-two twice, meaning only four pokemon are allowed. Single challengers are similar to single battles through the one-on-one concept but maintain an equal amount of pokemon on both sides. For Shalour, the max number is three.
It is recommended that the Challenger come prepared for battles within Shalour are fought with very few limits. The evolved pokemon won't take mercy on unevolved pokemon or less experienced pokemon, at best they will merely lighten their blows. As such the Leader will allow the Challenger to choose which of the evolved pokemon they don't want to battle against for fairness. Hawlucha does count for this. Jean and her pokemon don't baby their challengers but try to encourage them to strive for greater heights.
Both the Leader and Challenger may use items, though the Leader may only use healing items twice in one battle. The Challenger is allowed to switch pokemon at any time so long as they are the specified pokemon for that battle.
During gym trainer battles, the same rules apply to Challengers but the trainers are not allowed to use any items outside berries. Battles are fought until a party forfeits or is unable to continue due to damage, fatigue, etc.
AFTER A BATTLE
If the Challenger wins (ie knocking out the Leader's pokemon) then they will be rewarded with the Shalour Gym Badge, a sum of money, and a chosen TM.
Challengers who fail to beat a gym trainer's pokemon or the Leader's pokemon will end up forfeiting a small sum of money to the party who defeated them.
Under special circumstances, Jeanne may reward a badge to those who have overcome the hidden lessons in her challenges, they might even come out of it with a stronger bond if the lesson stuck.
HINTS AND TIPS
- There is a hidden agenda in each challenge no matter how simple it may be.
- Gym battles will/may challenge you both physically and mentally.
- You may keep any equipment you have purchased from the Gym.
- There is more than just battles at the gym, feel free to come by to relax with some skating.
- Coton is very temperamental so if you see him without Jeanne DO NOT ANTAGONIZE THE MANKEY. Thank you.
- Despite Jeanne and her pokemon's relative appearance of strictness they have not had a single heavy injury or death since they took over.
