biography Benjamin "Benji" Everett was born on the hillcrest side of Coumarine City, to a young couple that was having major financial issues. Both of them struggled to put food on the table and keep a roof over their head, especially with a baby to take care of. They both worked full time jobs and enlisted the help of their two friends - Abel Johnson and Emery Whiletker - in raising Benji. The two took the boy to the seaside part of Coumarine city. Growing up he would often visit his parents Catherine and Henry for a week before going back to Abel and Emery, but as he got older his visits became less frequent. Especially when he got his first Pokémon. Around the time Benji turned nine years old, he found a Noivern near the ranch that his caretakers lived on. At first, he was absolutely amazed. The child had always dreamed of being a trainer! Though he was too young to become a trainer. Or at least that's what he believed. So after dinner each day he went to the small cave the Noivern lived in, giving him fruit and staying with him until it was time to go back home. After a little over a week Ben saw a poster for a lost Noivern on his way home from school. He contacted the person who had put up the posters and brought him over to the Noivern to see if it was indeed his. And it was, in fact, his Noivern. His name was Orion, the old man had told him. The child was a bit disheartened as he hoped that Orion wasn't the old man's Noivern and he could keep him for himself, but he did feel better that he helped reunite the two. The old man named Edmond was grateful that Benji had helped him out, and let him visit Orion as much as he'd like. And he did just that. Every day the boy went over to Edmond's house to play with Orion, even if Abel and Emery weren't super thrilled about this. This kept going on for months, until one very special day. Benji's tenth birthday. He woke up on the morning of his birthday to a loud noise in his room, and Orion on his bed with a note in his mouth. Dear Benji, If I can recall correctly, today is your tenth birthday. So I've decided to give you a birthday present! I couldn't think of any better present to give you than your very first Pokémon. Hopefully Abel and Emery won't mind. Since you've done such a great job of taking care of Orion, I'll have some peace of mind by leaving him in your hands. I'm getting older and I probably won't be able to take care of him a whole lot longer. With you, he can have more time with people who care about him. Thank you for finding him for me and taking care of him. I'm sure he'll be very happy with you. Sincerely, Edmond He never forgot that day, and to this day the memory is still fresh in his mind. Since then Benji has been learning hard about Pokémon. Participating in battles, learning about the world that both humans and Pokémon inhabited as he developed the dream of exploring the world. Perhaps it is a bit cliché, but it's true. But his caretakers were reluctant to let him leave the ranch and go on an adventure; there were quite overprotective over him. One afternoon, while he was tidying up and removing or organizing the clutter in his room, Benjamin noticed the lights in his room flickering. It took him at least an hour to figure out the source of the miniature power glitches. And that was a miniature pokémon. A Joltik, in fact. His first instinct was to try and capture him. But the Joltik managed to evade him. Six times in fact. But the seventh time was the charm, and Ben finally managed to catch him. Out of irony, he named him Goliath due to his size. A month before they let him take off for his journey, his caretakers decided it would be nice to give a gift before he went off on his own. It took quite some time for them to figure out what to give to him, but Emery eventually came up with an idea. And that idea was to give him a Pokémon egg. Benji rarely took his eyes off of the mystery egg, though in one of the few instances he had to leave it, it hatched. When he got home from the store he saw an Eevee running around his house, scampering after Orion. She didn't like Benjamin very much. She would bite and scratch him, though he only saw that as overzealousness. Regardless of her harsh behavior, he still loved her and gave her the name Sage, after the plant. After a week of raising the Eevee and training her to be well mannered (or trying to), Abel and Emery both agreed that Benji would probably be fine on his own and probably wouldn't die of starvation out there in the wide world or get lost or make some other dumb mistake. Well, he's obviously going to make stupid decisions, but hopefully he won't make too many. pokemon
