small goldeen in a really darn big pond. ▼ » Forest. So much damned forest.
Back in Vientown, Severin had hoped to become one of the big shots, having reign of a majestic woodland and defending the poor, helpless creatures that were there. Even the poster in the ranger base depicted a huge man swinging on a vine to rescue a doe-eyed Buneary from a cliff's edge.
And of course that was too good to be true. But once he had full reign of an entire woodland, it was a bit... much.
An amazing much.
Lumiose City was behind him and he could finally take in this lush flora and all of the Pokemon calls echoing through the forest. The piping chirrups of Fletchling were the most standout, as many gathered in the tree branches. Oh, how one could just take in this atmosphere forever and feel their heart beating as one with nature in this lush garden of--
Pi-pi-pi-pi! Pi-pi-pi-pi!
Voicemail. It was his Styler ringing, doubling as a cell phone to keep him in touch with the police station.
"Area Ranger Falk? Area Ranger Falk, come in?"
Ugh. Willis Bain. Park Officer of Central Kalos. And quite literally the bane of a ranger's existence. With a stutter, an underqualified resume and a memory span shorter than a Slowpoke's, it was a wonder this guy got anything done. Every ranger on duty was 90% sure they could do his job better.
"H-hello? I just wanted to know how the patrol of the woods was going? Have you noticed anyone suspicious?" |

[attr=class, scroller]Severin was adapting to life in Lumiose pretty well, he liked to think. Even so, every time he wandered out into these woods there was a massive weight off of his chest. It was one of the only places where he felt he could actually breathe. His Clefairy perched happily on his shoulder, he'd been content to just wander, observing without actually doing much. That was the problem with people- they always felt like they had to be in action, rather than accepting the world for what it was. This was so good, so pure, out here with no sign of human contact.
Pi-pi-pi-pi! Pi-pi-pi-pi!
Or, well, there had been no sign of human contact. He tried to hang on to his limited moment of zen, but- no, it was gone, the mood was ruined. Ugh. "I'm here, Bain." He probably should have at least tried to hide the disdain in his voice, but to be honest he really couldn't be bothered. "If I had something to report, I would've reported." He got a smack on the back of the head for his effort, and glared at the Clefairy reproachfully. "What?" "Clefairy..." It wasn't fair for her to look so disappointed, she wasn't the one who had to participate in these inane conversations.
Ugh. Fine. He'd try to play nice. "Haven't seen a soul. Besides, it ain't like we're looking for anyone special... right?" He was always a little unsure where he stood with the police, since he wasn't technically on the force. Surely they'd let him know if there was anything important...? um yeah about that. ▼ » "Yeah. Uh-huh. Well, actually, I'm kind of checking in because of a report we just got of some weird character loitering around the forest. Apparently tall, hunched over, scared a couple kids. We're assuming it's just an larger Pokemon such as Simisage, but if you could check in and make sure that the problem's taken care of, it'd be super appreciated." Bain said, seeming awful nervous for a guy who was on the other end of a phone line rather than actually someone confronting the danger.
"Uh, just for safety, we called in another Area Ranger from Lumiose in to help with whatever situation may be present, since you're still a rookie in this environment. Her name is Celeste, and you'll probably see her riding in on her Pigeot before you--"
FWOOM.
A shock of red appeared in the treetops, landing a good 40 meters away.
"... Y-yeah. Regardless, if it's a person, take him into custody at Santalune Pokemon Center. If it's a Pokemon, see if you can calm it down and get it to stop acting erratically. Report back with any more info you get, Mr. Fawkes. Anyway, I've... kindagottagonow, seeyousoon!!"
That was brief. A girl wearing pilot goggles waved from nearby, dismounting off the large bird Pokemon. "Hey, man! You're the Almia guy they picked up, huh? Must be weird coming from out in the sticks to a grand metropolis." she commented with a snicker, before her Pokemon flew back into the clouds with a rush of wind.
"Don't mind my partner. He prefers the air. Anyway, let's track down this guy." |

[attr=class, scroller]Aww. As much as he didn't like being wrong, sometimes he just wanted to be wrong. Of course not, Sev, everything's fine, go back to enjoying your day and I'll leave you alone for the rest of forever. No such luck, it seemed. It was time to earn his keep. Well, at least there was a chance it was an actual problem this time- if he'd been called in to get one more Skitty out of a tree he might have lost it.
That said, he didn't really think much of it. Just a quick recon job, nothing to worry about despite Bain's wavering voice. As such, he was rather taken aback when the backup arrived. "Uh, yeah, got it. Over and... all that." He turned to the girl- Celeste, is that what he'd said?- and didn't do much other than blink at her for several long seconds. "Yeah, well, must be weird coming from a place where Pokemon fighting is a professional sport." He wasn't really mad, just sort of... huffy. Rookie? The sticks? Apparently his irritation was unjustified, though, because Cecilia smacked him again before waving back cheerfully. "Clefairy!"
"Okay, wow, was that really necessary? I feel so betrayed. You've betrayed me. Honestly, Pokemon sometimes, you're telling me." He attempted an awkward smile, failed to pull it off, and shook his head at himself before trotting in her direction. "Well, talk to me, any ideas? I mean, it coulda been anything, kids out here're scared of their shadows." [attr=class, tags]Serena ahh, it's so short, i'm sorry ;^; busy rhythm is busy |

meet your partner. luck of the draw. ▼ » "So, yeah. I'm Celeste Gillete, one of your seniors. Call me Cel, please." she insisted, before approaching him.
"Oh. Oh my gosh. Is that your partner- that sweet little Clefairy right there?" she asked. For a moment, Cel seemed as if she was going to throw her head back in laughter, but instead she simply fawned over the cute Pokemon.
"Aww, natural Fairy types are just the cutest! This little one is going to end up being the best dragon slayer in the Lumiose Ranger HQ if you guys keep up the good work!" she complimented, but it came out as more coddling than anything.
Pulling away, she thrust out a bright orange capture styler. "Anyway, sorry for wasting any extra time. I'm gonna head west and start looking near the riverbed- if you could check east near the thicker cedar woods, that'd be really awesome. I think the guys back in Lumiose already put my ID in your styler in case you need to contact me. Trust me- I'll be there as soon as you put the thing down." she bragged. She was... a motor mouth, that was for sure, but she had to have gotten up in the ranks somehow.
"Now, your Clefairy... do they know any moves that could really stop something in its tracks? If so, try that if you see any tall figure... any tall figure that isn't me or some tourist passing through. 'K? 'K. I'm out." |

[attr=class, scroller]"Severin Falk. You, uh, probably knew that." He eyed his partner from the corner of his eye, wondering how rude he was allowed to be before she started scolding him again. "It's... nice to meet you." He certainly didn't sound happy about it, but Ceci made an approving noise and patted him on the head.
The Clefairy's happy noises only increased in volume when Cel approached. She did a little twirl from her perch on his shoulder and waved, pleased with all the flattery. Sev himself was unimpressed- the adorable pink fairy drew this kind of attention constantly, it certainly wasn't anything new. He put up with it, though, nodding at her words and pulling out his own styler just to double check. "Yeah, we've got this. A good Sing or two usually works just fine." Ceci nodded enthusiastically and waved again. "I'll let you know if we see anything. Good luck." With that they were off, headed straight east.
"Keep an eye out, yeah?" "Clefairy!" He fell silent after that, not wanting to make any more noise than was necessary, though Ceci continued to hum and chatter to herself occasionally. The older Ranger had been right about the woods growing thicker- he rarely had the chance to come this far out, but the environment was definitely shifting. If he wasn't on a job, he would have loved to scour the area, try to see if different Pokemon made their homes here. He'd have to remember to come back later. In the current situation it was more irritating than anything, as less and less light made it through the leaves. Great. He still thought it was only a few kids messing around, but-
Wait. He stopped dead, cocking his head to the side to listen. Had he heard something? He frowned, and his Clefairy finally went quiet, eyes wide. Uh, it was probably just the local wildlife. Yeah. perhaps more than just birds. ▼ » rustle, rustle.
The sound of undergrowth being moved through had drawn both Severin and his partner's attention. A larger Pokemon? It was true that Diggersby and Simisage were rarely known to turn up in these parts, so it was likely just a large Pokemon.
And yet... in the shadows, deeper into the woods, Severin could just make out the hooded figure of someone shorter than he was, walking away briskly into the forest. Lost in twisting shade, they walked carefully, like a wild Sawsbuck, trying very hard not to disturb the natural scenery- likely to keep their actions covert. The figure turned for a moment, before continuing away at a faster pace, disappearing into the murk of the thicker cedar wood.
So, it was true that there was a human loiterer in the woods that was making some people concerned! What would Severin's response to this threat be? Should he contact the girl who headed in the opposite direction, or pursue the figure with Ceci? |
